Athens Greece was on my list for awhile now. I took some time off work and planned a couple of trips back to back to bring in my 30th. Hopped on a one way super early flight from Frankfurt international for a whopping cost of 25€. The Ryanair flight landed in Athens four hours later. I breezed through the airport, yay!! for #teamcarryon.
Right next to the exit gates there is the stop for the x95 bus, bought a ticket for 6€ at the counter and headed into town. It takes around one hour with traffic to get to the last stop at syntagma. From there I crossed the street and down the stairs to the metro station. 1.40€ later ticket in hand I boarded the red line to Eliniko with acropolis as my destination. I’ve read about pickpockets on the station but that can be anywhere, just be aware of your surroundings specially as a solo female traveler.
I arrived at my hostel at Athens backpackers located very close to the metro and the main attraction. It cost me about 11€ for the room, and yes I still backpack and hostel it up at 30. Once I got situated, It was time to explore Athens.
The history in this place in amazing. To read about the past is one thing, but seeing remnants of it just bring it to life. If you get the chance do not skip Athens, signing out the island kid trying to see the globe.
