Found out Ryanair opened flights to Israel, it was time to book a trip, pack up big Bertha(ie my backpack) and fly out. Having the time free from work , I started to look into places to explore. Eilat a southern city in Israel was the perfect base for the few days of adventure. Four hours flight time from the small Frankfurt Hahn airport to Ovda another small airport in the middle of the desert. An hour shuttle ride later and I pulled up in front of Arava hostel. The views on that drive were just amazing. The mountains and the curving roads down valleys, and the ever blue Red Sea peeking in the distance left me in awe. I settled in my room, figured out the lay of the land and met my roommates. It required me to make small talk(gasp) the introvert in me is learning to be social after so many solo trips. I then wandered a few feet from the hostel in search of food, after all it was thanksgiving Thursday, the « food » holiday. I ended up in a Brazilian restaurant out of all places, and for the next two hours I proceeded to eat till I became the stuffed turkey. I’m talking about rice, chili, penne, salad, root beer and finished it all with some crème brûlée. I left 146 sheckels poorer 😂, it is one of the most expensive cities, budget travelers beware. On the walk back, I had time to reflect, felt Thankful for traveling mercies, thankful to live out my dreams. Thankful to know for sure there are good people out there, those solo trips are proof of it.
Got to spend Saturday sabbath in Jerusalem, said a prayer at the wailing wall, walked part of the via Dolorosa to the church of the holy sepulchre (Golgotha).
